11th Circuit Court Judicial Retention Questions

The Bloomington Election Commission has finalized plans to address the Judicial Retention questions that were inadvertently omitted on some ballots. Voters who received and/or cast a ballot in which the Judicial Retention questions were omitted will be receiving in the mail a supplemental ballot containing only the omitted questions. Voters impacted are any voter who Early Voted prior to October 2, 2020 and those voters sent a ballot in the mail prior to October 2nd, 2020. The supplemental ballot will start to be sent out to impacted voters on October 12th. Voters may complete and return this supplemental ballot via the mail or to our drop box. Although the Bloomington Election Commission sought court approval for this plan of action, the court declined to issue a Temporary Restraining Order stating that there is no one objecting to the proposed plan of action and the Bloomington Election Commission has broad authority under the Election Law to conduct elections. This plan gives every voter who was impacted an opportunity to cast a vote on the 11th Circuit Court Judicial Retention questions.

Omission Discovered on Bloomington Election Commission Ballots

Earlier today, the Bloomington Election Commission learned that current ballots omitted two Circuit Court Judge retention questions. The judges omitted were Jennifer H. Bauknecht and Matthew J. Fitton. Due to this omission, City of Bloomington early voting at Grossinger Motors Arena is paused until corrections are made. This does not impact early voting for other areas outside of the Bloomington Election Commission’s jurisdiction. Bloomington Election Commission staff is working diligently to resolve this matter. Information for those that have already voted or received a ballot in the mail will be forthcoming. Updates will be sent via press release and can be viewed on the Bloomington Election Commission website at www.BECvote.org.
